Schumacher Fabric | The Ultimate Shopping Guide

Schumacher Fabric | The Ultimate Shopping Guide

Room designed by @andrewbrownid; as shown in @housebeautiful featuring Octavia Velvet, Bukharalkat and Greek Key Embroidered Tape.

What would you take with you if you had to go to an isolated island by yourself?

Me: my IPhone (and praying there will be cell signal)

What line of fabric would you choose if you could choose only one?

Me: No question asked, Schumacher Fabric.

To me, it’s the best line out there for beautiful, luxurious fabric.  New patterns are added weekly.  There are many options--from traditional to modern, from subdued neutral to bold, bright colors, F Schumacher got it all.

Here is the type of fabric you will see in this line:

Indoor/Outdoor: These are high performance fabric designed to withstand the sun, but they can be used indoors as well.  These fabrics are exceptionally durable.  Instead of only plain solid like you’ll see in most outdoor fabric collections, here you will find leopard, trellis, floral, damask prints, even velvet.

Plains: As the name implies, this collection consists of the simplest and less expensive fabrics.  They tend to be solid and neutral in colors.

Prints: This collection consists of several hand-blocked prints, small prints and large prints.  This is where you’ll see the most colorful patterns Schumacher has to offer.

Textures: This collection of textural fabrics such as mohair, velvet, wool, raffia and the like.  They are beautiful to touch and to look at.  Additionally, they also add dimensions to your room without distracting other elements.

The styles from Schumacher fabric can be divided into the following categories

Classic: Traditional, historical prints.
Contemporary: Newer, more fashion-forward prints.
Global: Inspired by worldly styles.  Here you will find ikat prints, Moroccan-inspired prints, and the like.
Luxe: Super high-end materials. This is where you go when money is no object.

You’ll see Schumacher fabric applied in some of the most beautiful rooms.  Here are a few to inspire you:

All these designers bring freshness and innovations to what is already a beautiful line.

The 411 on Schumacher Fabric.

  • Schumacher sells its fabric by the yard. There is 2 yards minimum.  A yard is typically 36 inches by 54 inches.
  • Most fabrics are in stock and will be shipped within 24-48 hours. You will typically receive it in 3-7 days, depending on where you live.
  • All fabrics are shipped on a roll to prevent wrinkles.
  • Samples are available. We strongly suggest you buy a sample as the image online might not reflect what it looks like.
  • When you are ready to purchase, one way to make sure the dye lot is what you want is to order a cut for approval. The way it works is Schumacher will reserve the quantity that you want, then cut a sample from that reserve and send it to you for approval.  Once you approve the cutting, they will ship.  This makes the process a little longer, but if you are buying something expensive, it will be wise to do so.

Where to Buy Schumacher Fabric

Schumacher are represented and displayed in design centers in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco etc.  As with everything nowadays, the best way is to buy it online.  We carry the entire line 😊.  There are also several other online vendors you can check out.

It must be noted that Schumacher has expanded its range.  You can also buy beautiful furniture, rugs (my fave), pillows and accessories, even paint!
